Forklift Fuel Tank - Nearly all fuel tanks are built; however several fuel tanks are fabricated by experienced craftsmen. Custom tanks or restored tanks can be found on motorcycles, aircraft, automotive and tractors.
When constructing fuel tanks, there are a series of requirements that must be adopted. Initially, the tanks craftsman would make a mockup to be able to find out the dimensions of the tank. This is often done making use of foam board. After that, design issues are dealt with, including where the outlets, seams, drain, baffles and fluid level indicator would go. The craftsman must determine the alloy, temper and thickness of the metallic sheet he would use so as to make the tank. Once the metal sheet is cut into the shapes needed, a lot of pieces are bent to be able to make the basic shell and or the ends and baffles for the fuel tank.
Several baffles in aircraft and racecars contain "lightening" holes. These flanged holes have two purposes. They add strength to the baffles while reducing the weight of the tank. Openings are added toward the ends of construction for the filler neck, the fluid-level sending unit, the drain and the fuel pickup. Occasionally these holes are added when the fabrication method is complete, other times they are made on the flat shell.
After that, the ends and baffles could be riveted into place. The rivet heads are normally soldered or brazed so as to stop tank leaks. Ends could after that be hemmed in and flanged and sealed, or brazed, or soldered using an epoxy type of sealant, or the ends could even be flanged and then welded. After the brazing, welding and soldering has been finished, the fuel tank is tested for leaks.
